We saw, and then were presented to, the Queen herself
There was singing and we watched a few comedic stage acts
Tug o' war!!
And pillow fighting!!
And the Danse Macabre came by...
We admired costumes, watched knights battle, and learned a good deal about daily life in that period, with the scavenger hunt/Passport to History program. The kids launched little bean bags with catapults, to "storm the castle"; checked out chain mail; watched craftsmen ply their trades; and of course we played the Giant Jenga game! All in all, it was a delightful afternoon! Now the family is curious about the SCA, as they had an informational booth there. Anyone have any experience with them/their organization?
We have a medieval fair every year and we love it!! I have pics of my daughter with the king and queen each year
ReplyDeleteI have some friends who did SCA for a while. It depends largely on your chapter. Some are excellent, and others are quite anal retentive about how historically accurate you MUST be. I miss going to the Ren Faire. It's been too long since I've gone. I'm glad you had fun!
ReplyDeleteRen faire season - WOO HOO! What great pictures. I have been missing ren faires since 2008 due to living overseas, so it was great to get back into attending them this year.
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys had fun!
SCA can be both fun and educational, but there are smaller groups out there too. For example, a group local to us here is the Brotherhood of Steel. Each one has its own rules and ways of doing things.
Neat! We are planning to visit the PA Ren Faire in October.
ReplyDeleteSide note: I owe you an e-mail. I think of you often, though...and will soon sit down and take time to write! :)
